Davao Food Appreciation Tour Day 1

I'm gonna share to you guys my 1st DFAT experience.  I'm not a food blogger nor am I that knowledgeable when it comes to food jargons but I love to eat and share what I eat on instagram so I think that's good for starters. So just a disclaimer,  I may not describe the food that well but I hope the pictures would suffice my inadequacy.

The orientation was held at Mam Bebs near Ateneo de Davao University,  I am an Atenean but I never tried the resto near my alma mater, shame on me! Mam Bebs formerly known as La Suerte Bakeshop is not just a Bakeshop that sells yummy bread and pastries. They also serve affordable but quality meals that will satisfy your appetite.

Potato Rolls

Snacks were served namely Potato Rolls, Mango Slices, Apple Pie and Hongkong Pancakes.

Potato Rolls look and taste like mini ensaymada. It will amaze you it's main ingredient is potato. A box would cost 650,perfect as a snack, may it be for adults or kids.

Mango Slices

One of my faves, mango slices! It was chewy and sweet. And did I mention it's addicting?  It's sweet but addicting kind of sweet, it's not too much sweet, just the right amount of sweetness you'll need after a meal. It was everyone's favorite.  50 pieces of this is worth 650, so that's  like 13 per slice.

Apple Pie

I was not a huge fan of Apple Pie before, but when you'll taste a good kind of Apple Pie, you'll be looking for it every now and then. This one has a strong cinnamon smell but the cinnamon taste compliments the apple well, this will taste heaven if you add vanilla ice cream on top but the pie itself is good enough if you don't want to add extra calories. For 550, it's worth a try.

Hong Kong Waffles

Hongkong waffles look cute with the little dots that form the waffles, waffles can be considered  one of my comfort food so this one made me happy,  it was served with confectionery sugar which I think is healthier than syrup because you can dust off the excess sugar unlike the syrup which makes you want to add more of it. Waffles costs 30 and add 5 if you want some chocolate on top which I should try next time.

My top 2 favourites would be the Mango Slices and Apple Pie.

After a few minutes of discussing the schedule on the following days, DOT Region XI Director, Mr. Roberto Alabado III shared to us on how they try to promote Davao City as a tourist destination by providing discounts on accommodation,  different tours, shopping and restaurants.  Visit Davao Fun Sale this year is different from last year, last year's focus was on mall sales whereas this year's focus was more on discovering Davao City.  You can save as much as 50% when you have the Davao Fun Sale passport which is available on malls or you can just download it on your phone since they have an app. I will share to you my Davao city Fun Sale experience on the next post. He also shared how tourism can help a city grow and how much a city can earn thru tourism.

After discussing about Visit Davao Fun Sale and answering our inquires in relation to tourism we had an early dinner.

Flat Iron Steak, Anchovy, Garlic and Mint Stuffed Leg of Lamb and Slow Roasted Turkey

Flat Iron Steak

For dinner, we went to Vikings at SM Lanang which I believe is the biggest buffet here in Davao as of the moment.  They offer wide array of food from Italian, Filipino, Japanese,  Korean, Chinese and a lot more.

Mexican Spiced Ham Hock

Tempura

Even the drinks are unlimited so for 788+ 5% service charge for weekday dinner  or 588 + 5% service charge for weekday lunch or 788 + 5% service charge for weekend/ holiday lunch and dinner you can taste over 400 different dishes in one restaurant.

Cheese Platter

My heart was stolen by their steak. It was soft and tasty, the peppercorn sauce compliments the beef so be sure to try it on your next visit. I was really tempted to try their salmon since co bloggers were raving on how good their sashimi was but my stomach gets really upset when I eat raw fish so I was really envious.

Biko , Palitaw and Puto

Cassanova

Was searching for new fave korean dish, Galbi Jjim but it was not available so I just tried their banchans but it was not spicy enough for me but it was good.

Their dessert table is a must visit.  They serve kakanin, cakes, crepes, froyo, ice cream, fondue and more. I tried their cakes and froyo but I was really happy with the froyo. It tastes like yogurt, not the sweet version but how yogurt suppose to taste like. I'm a big fan of yogurt if you guys don't know. You can add different toppings to your froyo depending on your palette.

Skewered Chicken

Pizza

They have promos every now and then so check out their facebook page for more updates. If you're a birthday  celebrant then you get to eat for free once during your birth month, better present a valid ID wherein your birthday is printed on it.

Sushi

and more Sushi

The place is spacious and the ambiance is really nice. Btw, you can request the waiters to sing a birthday song for your loved ones and it comes with a mini cake. Cute right?

And that ends my 1st day of DFAT 2015.
